West Virginia's simulated meeting with Coastal Carolina turned into a one-sided affair, as the Mountaineers earned a convincing 35-10 victory in EA Sports College Football. The result featured a standout performance from Cam Cook, who scored four rushing touchdowns, along with strong defensive contributions from West Virginia. For players interested in CFB 27 Coins and the broader virtual college football experience, this simulation offered plenty of action to examine.
The weekly simulations are designed to give fans another way to preview West Virginia matchups. Rather than simply looking at schedules and statistics, the virtual games provide a complete simulated contest with individual player numbers, scoring plays, and a final box score. In this matchup, West Virginia quickly established control and maintained its advantage throughout the game.
A Fast Start for the Mountaineers
West Virginia opened the simulation with a defensive touchdown. Harper Holloman intercepted Coastal Carolina quarterback Deuce Bailey and returned the ball 46 yards for a pick-six.
That play immediately gave West Virginia a 7-0 lead and provided an early indication that the Mountaineers' defense would play a major role. Coastal Carolina responded with a 42-yard field goal from Nico Cavanillas Alti, but the answer did little to change the direction of the game.
West Virginia soon began extending its lead through the rushing attack.
Cook Becomes the Main Story
Cam Cook delivered the most impressive individual performance of the simulation. He carried the ball 12 times for 58 yards and scored four touchdowns.
His scoring sequence was particularly striking. Cook first found the end zone on a 12-yard run, then added a six-yard touchdown. He continued his scoring spree with a three-yard run before finishing the performance with a one-yard touchdown.
The four touchdowns gave Cook a dominant role in the Mountaineers' offensive production. Even though his rushing yardage was not enormous, his ability to consistently finish drives made him the game's biggest offensive difference-maker.
Hawkins Keeps the Offense Efficient
Mike Hawkins Jr. also delivered a clean performance at quarterback. He completed all 13 of his passes for 120 yards and added 86 yards on 15 rushing attempts.
The passing game was not asked to carry the entire offense, but Hawkins' accuracy helped West Virginia maintain possession and move the ball efficiently. Jaden Bray led the receiving corps with five receptions for 38 yards, while DJ Epps contributed three catches for 20 yards.
Josh Sapp also made an impact with one 20-yard reception. Prince Strachan recorded one catch for two yards.
Defensive Pressure Continues
West Virginia's defense continued to make life difficult for Coastal Carolina throughout the simulation. Holloman's pick-six was followed by another interception from cornerback Keyshawn Robinson.
Ben Cutter was especially active, recording eight tackles and three tackles for loss. Matt Sieg finished with five tackles and one tackle for loss, while Malachi Hood contributed four tackles and one tackle for loss.
The defensive performance prevented Coastal Carolina from developing a consistent offensive rhythm.
Coastal Carolina Struggles to Move the Ball
Deuce Bailey completed 11 of 19 passes for 126 yards but threw two interceptions and did not produce a passing touchdown. His rushing contribution amounted to 24 yards on four carries.
Running back Dominic Knicely was the main source of offensive production for the Chanticleers. He rushed 13 times for 42 yards and one touchdown while adding four receptions for 31 yards.
Wide receiver Tristan Gardner provided another bright spot with three catches for 63 yards, but Coastal Carolina could not turn those individual efforts into sustained scoring drives.
The Scoring Pattern Tells the Story
West Virginia led 7-0 after the first quarter and added two touchdowns in the second period. The Mountaineers then scored another seven points in the third before adding one final touchdown in the fourth.
Coastal Carolina's only touchdown came late, when Knicely scored from five yards. By then, West Virginia had already built an insurmountable 35-3 advantage.
The scoring distribution shows just how consistently the Mountaineers controlled the matchup.
A Balanced Virtual Performance
Although Cook's four touchdowns naturally received the most attention, the victory was not based on one player alone. Hawkins' efficiency, the defense's two interceptions, and the team's ability to control the ground game all contributed.
West Virginia also avoided giving Coastal Carolina opportunities to turn the game around. Once the Mountaineers established a large lead, they continued to manage the contest effectively.
An Entertaining Simulation
The final 35-10 score made this one of West Virginia's more convincing simulated performances. Cook's four touchdowns created the headline, while the defense provided the foundation for the comfortable victory.
As weekly simulations continue, fans can use these virtual matchups as an entertaining way to examine potential game scripts and player performances. This particular contest suggested a West Virginia team capable of combining efficient quarterback play, productive rushing, and opportunistic defense.
